Is there any difference?

Is there any difference in 7.5*54 and 7.5*54R?

Thank you.

While on the subject,,,, are there any semi-auto battle rifles that use the 54R ?

What do you shoot the 54R in?

Mosin-Nagants, but I am wondering if any newer semi autos use that round. My mistake, I thought you were talking about 7.62x54R

If you're talking about 7.62x54R, the Russian SVT40 (WW2 semi-auto) uses it, along with the current crop of Dragunov-looking rifles (Romak-3 & such).

The DP 28 is full or semi auto and uses a 54r round, and the top mounted drum looks sweet. It would be classified as a light machine gun and not a battle rifle however.

When you get your SVT, PLEASE wear better-than-usual hearing protection. That mil-surplus rifle, along with the Egyptian Hakim, have very effective muzzle brakes. They're great at reducing recoil, but the muzzle blast is also pretty impressive. I generally wear foam ear plugs in addition to my Peltor earmuffs.

If you want to start your SVT collection a bit early, AIM Surplus was selling the (scarce) SVT bayonets for ~$150. Not sure if they still are or not....

What I want to know is could you use the 54R in a bolt action MAS?

I can't believe no one has pointed out that the "r" denotes rimmed. Also, I am unaware of a 7.65 but there is plenty of 7.62 (.30 cal, really .311). 7.62X54r.net is a great resource on that caliber.

P.S., to WAoG, the "r" is lower cased.

Has anyone shot a 308 in a bolt action MAS.

I heard you could do it?

I was drinking last night and the 54R ammo is just so cheap that I wondered if it was possible. Now looking at the 54R it looks like a no go.

Not in the sportsmansguide. I was inventoring ammo yesterday and looking at the picture of the 54R and the live 7.5*54.

Wish I could buy the MAS ammo that cheap.

Well, after some research I must say that I learn something new everyday.
